Non-Executive Directors

Fiona Gregory

Chairman
Fiona joined the Society in 1995 and was elected to the Committee in 2001 having previously acted as Solicitor to the Society for many years. In 2008 she was elected Vice Chairman of the Society and Chairman in May 2009. Fiona qualified as a Solicitor in 1982, becoming a Notary Public in 1995.

Nick Bayley

Vice Chariman
Nick joined the Committee in January 2008. With 21 years of Sales and Marketing experience across the Financial Services and Banking sectors, including time as an Independent Financial Adviser, Nick has held managerial positions at Barclays and The Woolwich managing teams of up to 150 IFAs as well as setting up the UK’s first IFA Training Academy.

Richard J English

Senior Independent Director
Richard joined the Society in 1969 and was elected to the Committee in 1978. He was appointed as Treasurer of the Society in 1995 through to its incorporation in 1997, and Chairman of the Society between 1986/87 and 2001/09.

Tony Dormer

Tony joined the Committee in January 2006. After studying economics at Newcastle University, he was employed by British Airways between 1970 and 2004, working in the finance and commercial areas. Tony is Chief Executive of British Airways’ Clubs.

Jeff Hayes

Jeff joined the Committee in April 2010 after a long career in Fund Management in the City of London. Working at the London Stock Exchange he managed Fixed Income portfolios for a broad range of institutional clients including Pension Funds, Friendly Societies and Charities. He now has a limited number of non-executive roles in the Society including Chairman of a UK Defined Benefit Pension Scheme.

Chris Radford

Chris joined the Committee in June 2010 with over 35 years’ experience in the financial services industry. Chris has been Group Chief Executive of the TIS Group and has also held senior managerial positions at Legal & General, Lambeth Building Society, Leeds Building Society, and First Direct.

Executive Directors

Mark Myers

Chief Executive
With over 27 years’ experience in Financial Services, Mark was appointed Chief Executive of British Friendly in July 2010. His career includes time as Sales Director of the Retail Banking arm of Lloyds TSB, a role that required attachments to both the DTI and FSA. More recently, Mark was Distribution Director and subsequently Partnership Director at Liverpool Victoria.

Lee Schopp

Finance Director
Lee brings more than 17 years’ of strategic planning and experience to the Society and was appointed as Finance Director in July 2010. Lee is a Chartered Accountant and has worked at Board level for both AIM listed and private companies, in particular for technology and business to business organisations.

Michael Harding

Company Secretary
Michael originally joined the Society in 1970 as an accounts clerk and has, since then, progressed through different departments. He joined the Board in 1976 becoming General Secretary during the 1980’s, Compliance Officer in 1997 and Chief Executive in 1999. Michael stepped down as Chief Executive in 2010 and is now and Governance and Compliance Director for the Society.
